Early May Update

By John Washburn - Posted on 13 May 2008

On Saturday May 3 we started the ride in near freezing wind chills. That was due ot strong winds out of the west. Our goal was to ride to Runnells and return to Yellow Banks Park by 11:00 for a picnic.
The tailwind was appreciated on the way out. About half of the crew made it to Runnells and back to Yellow Banks Park by 11:00. Others turned around before they made it all the way to Runnells so that we would all arrive at the picnic together.
The ride back to Yellow Banks Park was into a strong wind.
It was a good experience for the first year riders. They now understand better why we want them to work hard so that they will be able to handle these tough rides.
Headwinds all the way back to the Register building.
The next Monday was one of those perfect evenings except for some bugs.
This Thursday we will all meet for our first Parents Meting since riding outdoors.
We will review the year so far and then address the weekend campout coming up on May 17-18.
We ride our bikes to the YMCA Camp north of Boone where we have team building activities and learn about sleeping in tents and getting everything picked up for the return ride the next morning.
Campouts are great times for the riders to get to know each other better. There is enough spare time to expand the circle of friends.
