Here comes June
In may we were able to make most rides with helpful weather. Our evening rides get a little longer due to more daylight and faster riders.
Our Saturday rides get longer and hillier as we prepare for whatever RAGBRAI may offer.
We had a successful ride to the Boone YMCA camp and back after a night in the tents. It was successful in that we learned about head winds on the way up and on the way back we had winds and rain.
All of the new riders learned that they can handle adversity and get home happy. We followed that 120 mile weekend with 52 miles on the next Saturday and then 66 miles with hills last Saturday.
Confidence and muscles are growing.
This weekend will will ride out to St Thomas Moore Center at Lake Panorama for another night of camping and a ride back to Des Moines on Sunday.
It is always pleasing to see the return ride faster than the ride out. Knowing that they made the ride out with energy to spare lets them stop on the gas a little stronger on the way back.
In June we will do more long training rides leading up to our big weekend at the end of the month to southern Iowa for a three day camping adventure. The weekend will add about 200 miles to our total.
it is not all work. On next Monday we will have a skating party to add easy fun to our routine.
Thanks for listening.
